By combining technologies and competence from all its subsidiary companies, HAV Group has launched a commercial initiative to provide complete solutions for emission reduction in short sea transport.

The initiative will be unveiled at the Nor-Shipping 2023 maritime industry event today.

By analyzing general operational patterns, analyzing specific vessels’ typical operations profile, and utilizing the combined, complementary competence of its subsidiaries, HAV Group can develop dedicated short sea cargo designs as well as fuel and energy conversion solutions that optimize total cost of operation while also reducing emissions.

"HAV Group is an enabler of green transition at sea. We see that short sea transport could, and probably should, lead the way with regards to fast-tracking zero emission shipping. However, this is a challenging regulatory, technological and economic landscape to navigate, so we have pooled our expert resources together to offer advice on everything from vessel design to which energy carriers and propulsion systems owners of short sea cargo vessels should choose," says Gunnar Larsen, CEO of HAV Group ASA.

Among many other things, HAV Group has carried out a study of AIS data from relevant ships in the short sea segment to gain deeper insight into typical sailing distances, speeds and time spent in port and sailing.

This insight, coupled with an in-depth understanding of regulatory requirements as well as technologies available to realize zero emission short sea ambitions, puts HAV Group in a unique position to provide advice regarding suitable technologies and optimal solutions for short sea vessels. Such input is tailor-made and developed in close collaboration with shipowners.

HAV Group possesses in-depth know-how about ship design, energy design, smart control systems, propulsion, automation, navigation and communication systems, water treatment systems and zero emission energy sources and solutions. All this competence and technology will be applied to enable the green transition for short sea transport.

"Today's operation is strongly influenced by the flexibility that lies in being able to bring large amounts of energy on board in the form of energy-dense diesel. New fuels and energy solutions will probably be able to be utilized even better when one begins to evaluate optimal operating patterns and speeds for these," adds Gunnar Larsen.

HAV Group offers ship design services through HAV Design; sustainable energy, propulsion, automation and NavCom systems through Norwegian Electric Systems, Hydrogen and ammonia-based energy systems through HAV Hydrogen, and water treatment systems through Norwegian Greentech.

HAV Group is based in Fosnavåg, Norway, and is listed on Euronext Growth in Oslo.Source: HAV Group
